Dr. Asmita Dasgupta

Assistant Professor

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

About
Research Area

Dr. Asmita Dasgupta has done her doctoral research at Neurobiology Division of IICB, Calcutta on effects of thyroid dysregulation in developing brain. Her understanding of human glial progenitors developed during her postdoctoral fellowship at Centre for Translational Neuromedicine, URMC, Rochester, NY and she got the opportunity to study glioma proteomics during her CSIR Research Associateship at IIT Bombay. Upon joining Pondicherry University, Dr. Dasgupta initiated teaching Neurobiology, introduced & initiated teaching Stem Cell & Regenerative Biology, apart from teaching the core courses in Molecular Genetics & Enzymology. Dr. Dasgupta also initiated an outreach platform named “BioGeneSys” in 2017. Her research laboratory, the Neurobiology Lab is interested in glial biology in context of dysregulation in endocrine and neurotransmitter functions and their implications in brain homeostasis and aims towards developing restorative therapeutics targeting such disruptions. Her laboratory is also interested in computational modelling and welcomes doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with skills in either computational biology or classical cellular and molecular biology to join in her research endeavors.
